HAPPY HOUR is sired by the celebrated INDUC,
and is INDUC's FIRST APPROVED SON. In 1994,
INDUC earned the German Bundeschampionship, competing against the cream-of-the-crop
of Germany's 4-year olds of all breeds and disciplines. He received excellent
marks for his rideability, trainability and movement. INDUC's dam is the
State Premium mare, IRIS XIII.
INDUC's grandam, ILLUSION II, was also a very
accomplished mare successfully competed through the "S" Level
under Harry Boldt. Also in HAPPY HOUR's very
impressive lineage is IBIKUS, an outstanding
stallion also very highly regarded. HAPPY HOUR's
dam was the very special mare, HEIMKEHR III
sired by the superb, well-known and respected Elite stallion ERZSAND
*E*. The lineage of HEIMKEHR III traces back to Mare Family No.
10 HERBSTZEIT FAMILY 687 from the original
Main Stud Trakehnen in Germany -- one
of the very important, strong & influential families of this breed.
While HAPPY HOUR's sire was very accomplished
as a youngster and has been prepotent in his abilities to continue the
trend of his predecessors to pass on very desirable traits (HAPPY
HOUR being an excellent example of how this lineage has stamped
its get for generations), equal, if not more credit must be given to HAPPY
HOUR's wonderful dam, HEIMKEHR III.
Two months prior to coming to the US and at a very young age of 3, HAPPY
HOUR participated in his very first Materiale competition in Cologne,
Germany where he placed 6th out of 26 "graded" stallions. What
an accomplishment this was indeed as he achieved this having been under
saddle for a very short time - only 3-4 weeks.
We imported HAPPY HOUR in August 1998. He
underwent the required 30-day stallion quarantine in Maryland, and is
both CEM and EVA Negative. The handlers at the quarantine
station complimented he was the best stallion they had ever handled (very
easy, sensible and willing).
HAPPY HOUR successfully completed his American
Trakehner Association (ATA) Stallion Inspection held in Louisville, Kentucky
in June 1999. He received an excellent evaluation with very positive comments
regarding his type, balance, elasticity, great ground-covering movement
& impulsion, and his excellent self-carriage. HAPPY HOUR received
8's and 9's for his movement, all very respectable marks
for such a youngster! Comments from the German Inspector, Klaus Wittlach
were,
"HAPPY HOUR is a very
harmonious horse of Trakehner type with very good basic paces and active
hindquarters, well balanced. He is somewhat limited in size, but due
to his active hindquarters with which he steps far underneath himself,
he appears bigger when he moves. An uphill horse that is very impressive."
In October 2000, HAPPY HOUR earned his permanent
ATA stallion approval by successfully completing the prescribed ATA stallion
performance testing. He completed a USEA Recognized Horse Trial, which
consisted of a dressage test, a challenging cross-country (Open Novice)
and stadium-jumping course. HAPPY HOUR earned
many 8's in his dressage test, carried out a very challenging and fast
cross-country course over rough terrain (in 30+ mph winds), and executed
a flawless stadium-jumping course a half hour later, all of these
tasks being accomplished in about 3 hours. Needless to say, we were very
relieved HAPPY HOUR completed this event safely,
and that he now enjoys permanent ATA approved stallion status.
In addition, HAPPY HOUR earned "Elite"
stallion approval from the American Warmblood Society (AWS) in
early October 2000. He earned a "Silver Medal" and was
approved with flying colors, being the only stallion to gain approval
at this inspection. He received outstanding marks and comments: Walk (Purity
& Correctness) 8.625, Walk (Quality of Gait) 9.375, Trot (Purity
& Correctness) 10.0, and Trot (Quality of Gait) 10.375. HAPPY
HOUR also earned the AWS Year-End Bronze Medal Award for AWS Mature
Stallions Presented In-Hand during 2000 throughout the entire country.
HAPPY HOUR possesses impeccable Trakehner
lineage in both his mother and father lines. We are witnessing absolute
proof that HAPPY HOUR has become a most valuable
asset to the Trakehner breed, as well as other breeds in the US and Canada
(with plans to export to Europe in the future). He has an outstanding
character and temperament, an incredibly willing attitude, and is an absolute
joy to ride and to work with in all respects. Like many of his predecessors,
he possesses superb rideability, trainability and movement. HAPPY
HOUR seems to thoroughly enjoy his work and life, and new lessons
and more advanced exercises come easy. He has a fabulous can-do
attitude and his name certainly seems to suit him very well, as he's
a very "happy" boy.
With HAPPY HOUR's excellent conformation,
movement and wonderful temperament, coupled with his ability to consistently
pass on very highly desirable physical and mental traits to his offspring,
we are most proud about HAPPY HOUR's contributions
to breeding in this country and Canada to date, as he has already proven
what a valuable sire he is now, and we strive to continue this path in
the future. Much of the credit for success goes to the mares with which
HAPPY HOUR has been paired. While the stallion
is, of course, a very important and significant contributor to the breeding
equation, we must never forget the importance in the need for quality
mares and lineage, as they contribute at least 50% to the resulting offspring.
Many thanks to all of the mares as breeding success is a team effort and
cannot be achieved alone!
